Division 2 Champions conclude season in style

E-mail Print PDF

 Atticus 3   4½-2½   Prescot, Monday April 23, 2012

Division 2 champions Atticus 3 won their final match of the season in brisk fashion. The match was competitive but Prescot were at a disadvantage in having to default on board 7.  While credit for their success this year should go to the Atticus 3 team as a whole - and to Tom's captaincy -  it is worth noting that Luke has had an outstanding season, scoring 11½/13, while Jim Wiseman and Dave Healiss have also been heavy hitters. Individual results can be found on the Atticus 3 team page.

Atticus 3 wins the 2nd Division 10/4/12

E-mail Print PDF

Congratulations to Atticus 3 for winning the 2nd Division title tonight. They beat Hoylake 1, 4-3 in a very close encouter.

In tonight's game,Luke Boumphrey (in line for Division 2 player of the season) on board 1 was unfortunate to lose out in a very strong position to Dave Tebb ( Dave has been one of  MCA's finest players over a number of years and he has beaten the former world champion Gary Kasparov in a simultaneous game.)

Once again good victories for Dave Healiss, Jim Wiseman and Dave Hurley proved decisive

With Howard Sleeman missing from the team tonight, Callum Ormerod was drafted into the team and provided an interesting drawn game

Also a good  steady draw on board 3 for Izzy Abuleela .

The team has been led from the front by their superb Captain Tom Lawton who has had a brilliant season.

Some credit must  be given for some excellent driving to the venue and finding a great place to celebrate after the match by that wonderfully talented draw specialist, the Atticus 2 Captain.
