It may not be that often that a team finds itself outgraded on most boards when facing a team comprising jumiors, and this showed the depth and strength of the Chester Chess Club. Both teams however, are fighting for survival in the Wirral 1st Division. I guess this fixture might be regarded as similar to a Huddersfield v Cardiff clash.

These days, Sanjoy appears to be on a roll though, and he powered through his game with some assurance. Conversely, Steve B was not really at the races, and he was disapointed with his play. So, 1-1 as the whistle blew for half-time. Luke has obviously been secretly praying to Caissa, and he was very satisfied with his play, notching a splendid win. I must have been praying to some other entity, as the maxim 'All that glisters isn't gold' seemed lost on me, as I greedily grabbed the exchange – and duly paid the consequences.

This left the match score at 2-2, but with Brian staring at defeat: a piece down; a bemused look on his face. However, the possibilty of a perpetual appeared as his rooks assembled on the 7th rank. Even so, Brian's clock had by now turned most antagonistic, and Brian does enjoy continuing to write down his moves! As it transpired, the position was a certain draw, and we all breathed a sigh of relief.

So, this leaves the lower level of the Division 1 table most precarious indeed, and I'm sure that the juniors of Chester D will still have a strong say in what does eventually happen.
