Atticus 2 260422A fantastic season ended tonight on the final game of the final match as Andrej Stancak produced another victory in the final seconds, this time over his opponent Piotr Januszewski. Any other result and Liverpool would have been Champions, well done to both teams for producing such a dramatic finish to the season. Congratulations to all the players involved and also to all the other members of the Club who have contributed so much this year to enable this result be possible.

Atticus 2 win close battle 30/3/22

Atticus 2 continued their fine season with a close 4-3 victory over Aigburth.  The Aigburth team provided a very formidable line-up and were probably a bit unfortunate not to get a draw.

First to finish was Luke Boumphrey with a early victory over Dave Eisen,Dave was not at his best on the night but had beaten Luke convincingly earlier on in the season.

Dave Stuttard went all in against Dave Pearceys Owens Defence, in a massive attack Dave S had to give up crucial material. Dave Pearcey defended precisely at the important moments and was able to turn the tables to his advantage.

Sanjoy came up against the very experienced Ian Campbell. The match looked very equal going into the midde game but as Sanjoy overpressed Ian took the lead.

Steve Kee may have had a slight edge over Roger when a draw was agreed. Roger opting for Steve's old opening of the Stonewall Dutch.

David Lawson and Danny Rowlandson had an equal game but David Lawson's superior end game play proved decisive.

Andrej had another long match with Steve Lee, Andrej continued his fine run of form securing victory in the closing minutes.

Brian Ewart had a superior position but blundered with under 5 mins left, somehow Brian managed to find a great tactic to pose severe problems for Anthony Pimblett. With only a couple of minutes left Anthony decided he had to go for the drawn repetition.

Final Score 4-3 to Atticus

Usually, the team captain will peruse the action on the other boards, both from a team perspective, and out of interest pending a future match report. However, I was all too aware that my own position was more than perilous, as Mick quickly gained the exchange and it looked like I might soon have plenty of time on my hands. From the little I gathered, on board 1 John looked at least equal, board 2 was.. complex, board 4 was controlled from Andrej's point of view, board 5 was.. flexible in the best Lawson-esque sense, board 6 looked comfortable for Dave. Then I returned and fortunately managed to turn things around. In the end, the grades told the story I guess. See you in the final!   Report Steve Kee
