With the Captain on a football watch, Nick Martin took the helm. A great result and here is Nick's report.

Board 1 saw Tom Bimpson play the London system against Steve Lee. Tom marched his H-Pawn and had Steve tied up just holding on. Tom got both his Rooks on the half open H-file and broke through forcing the win.

Board 2 saw NickMartin play his favourite Caro against Tony McNamara. Queens came off which suited Nick's compact pawn structure and when Nick won the exchange it was just a matter of avoiding knight forks to secure the win.

Board 3 saw Martin Blasczyk take on Brendan Kane's French defence. Martin played aggressively but Brendan had both his knights well positioned and managed to snare Martin's queen on G7 causing resignation.

Board 4 saw Frank Connor play a Larsen type opening against Sanjoy Banerjee. Sanjoy played methodically and won a pawn at the cost of an open pawn structure. However Sanjoy kept control and resrtricted his opponent leading to the win and a deserved 3-1 match victory.
