How to challange your opponent

If you play with white, you have to challange your opponent on Lichess.org.
Sign in with your own Lichess username.
Click on the name of your opponent => his Lichess-Profile opens
Click on the "Crossed Swords"-Icon to challange him
Choose these settings:
- Variant: Standard
- Time control: Real Time, Minutes per side: 60, Increment in seconds: 30
- Rated (to enable the anti-cheating-system of Lichess)
- now click on the "white king"-icon and wait

After your opponent accepted your challange the game starts.

In this extraordinary times we can not play this tournament face-to-face over the board. As we don't want to cancel this tournament, we decided to play the games online at Lichess.org. This gives everyone the opportunity to join our tournament.

For the 10th consecutive year Atticus Chess Club invites all chess-players to enter the

Name, surname, grade, e-mail address, phone or mobile, Lichess-Nick
Registration ends on Sunday, 14/06/2020, 7.00 p.m.
Venue: Online Tournament on Lichess.org
Tournament Mode: 9 rounds swiss system, computer-pairing (Sevilla 18.3.1 or later)
White challenges his opponent on Lichess.
Rounds round 1: 15/06/2020, 7.30 p.m.
round 2: 22/06/2020, 7.30 p.m.
round 3: 29/06/2020, 7.30 p.m.
round 4: 06/07/2020, 7.30 p.m.
round 5: 13/07/2020, 7.30 p.m.
round 6: 20/07/2020, 7.30 p.m.

FAQ: 1. What happens in the event of a dispute? The decision of the tournament controller Martin Blasczyk will be final. His decision will be made in good faith.
2. Will the club make any profit from this tournament? No.
3. I know before entering I will not be able to play every week. Can I take a bye in advance? Yes to a maximum of three half point byes. There will be no byes allowed in the last round unless notified on entry.
4. When will I know my opponent of the next round? Every Monday, when all matches had been played, latest at 11 p.m., all pairings of the next round will be generated immediately. All pairings will be published on the Atticus website latest on the following Tuesday. You may play your game in the days before the next round, if your opponent agrees.
5. I cannot play every Monday. Is it nevertheless possible for me to join this tournament? Yes, you can join this tournament. Knowing your opponent one week in advance you may contact him/her to arrange another time to play your game. You would then submit the result (pgn-file) by e-mail to the tournament controller.
6. Is there a limit on the number of entrants? No. Everyone can register for this tournament.

Instructions for the 10. Atticus Open 2020

Everyone who registers for our 10th Atticus Open / Summer Tournament 2020 has to submit his Lichess-Nick.

1. Creating an accont on Lichess:

Go to https://lichess.org/signup, enter a username, password and your e-mail, agree to all four points below, and click on "Register". You will get a welcome e-mail.

2. Adjust your Lichess account setting

Login at Lichess, click in the top-right on your Lichess-nick and click on "Profile". Then click on the gearwheel-icon (= edit profile). Go to "Privacy" and change "Let other players challenge you" to "always".

3. Challenging your opponent

If you play white: A list of all players with their linked Lichess-nick is on our website. Simply login at Lichess with your standard browser (I recommend Firefox) and then click on the Lichess-nick of your opponent. Now click om the "crossed sword icon" at the top-right of his profile, choose Variant "Standart", Time Controll "Real Time", Minutes per side = 60 and Increment in seconds = 30 and select "Rated". As you are playing with white, click on the "White King Icon". Now wait for your opponent.

If you play black: You opponent challendes you. You will see the number "1" (in white on a red background at the "Two crossed swords" icon at the top-left the Lichess-window. Click on this icon and accept the challenge by clicking on the green tick.

Now the game starts.

Remarks: Choose always "Rated". because "Casual" will turn off the Lichess Anti-Cheating measures.

4. Reporting the result of the game

After the end of the game, the winner downloads the pgn-file and This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

5. Every round starts on Mondays at 7.30 p.m. (Britisch Time = 20:30 German Time.)
