A match that appeared to start well for us quickly turned to dust once the Wallasey C players got into their stride.

I had the better of the opening against Mark Spriggs but whilst it was difficult for him to get anything more than the half-point I could not find enough to convert to a win.

Dave Hurley, back after a prolonged and forced absence, started well enough against the resolute Duncan Rennie. However, Duncan’s position remained solid and eventually he found a way to break through for the win.

Tom Webb looked like he was enjoying himself against Ed Taylor but will have been disappointed to come away with nothing after Ed found an exchange sacrifice which turned the tables at a stroke.

Mark seemed to be doing well enough from the outset but somewhere down the road he lost material and Alan Jackman assumed control from there.

Howard Sleeman appeared better against Colin Dougherty but in the end had to be satisfied with the half-point.

Steve Winstanley never really got going after losing a piece early on. He battled on gamely but really there was only ever going to be one winner.

So… something of a drubbing but it was good to see Dave back in action and our team back to its original starting 6. Hopefully, this will continue to the end of the season but sincere thanks is extended to Mike Williams who has (and continues) to always make himself available when needed.
